Editing Hosts File in Windows 7

This morning, I was searching for an answer on how to edit my hosts file found in Windows\System32\drivers\etc. None of them helped but I figured it out because something pops out in the corner of the desktop while I was attempting to save the hosts file I've edited in Notepad.

So I figured out that the problem is on my Antivirus application. It protects the hosts file from being edited. My Antivirus application is Avira but you could also perhaps check yours out when having this problem and being certain that you are using an administrator account.

Here's what I've done to successfully update my hosts file:

1. I open the application and proceeded to the Administration selections found in the bottom right of the user interface.
2. I go to Reports.
3. Found the Configuration button that can also be found through choosing several other options but this had been my way.
4. Another window will appear and I found an On and Off button for expert mode. I turned that on and found a lot of other options being presented.
5. On the center right corner of that particular window, there's General selection.
6. Under that one, I chose Security.
7. Security got options for Autostart, System protection and Product protection.
8. Under System protection, I found out that the option that will enable the application to block changes made for the hosts file was checked.

9. I simply unchecked it and it worked!
